At IDAHO ADVENTURE GEAR, we believe in highly functional and durable equipment that gets the job done. We use only the finest gear available…and we build the rest.
Too often have we been in the woods or on a trip and realized that something wasn’t quite right. The setting was great, but the equipment wasn’t working properly. The backpack was too heavy, the stove wouldn’t heat up, the boat or motorcycle or RV was overloaded. We have found the best equipment out there for nearly every outdoor recreational activity. We buy, build, test, sell and can recommend the perfect products to help you fully enjoy your next outing.
Over the years we have found some excellent companies who make great products and stand behind them. Even so, there are certain sports and hobbies that require very specific and functional pieces of gear. The ADVENTURE STOVE is one example. Up until now there were two main choices for lightweight backcountry stoves; butane canister or liquid gas. Gas stoves are heavy, expensive, clunky, and they burn toxic petroleum only available at certain stores carried in heavy bulky metal bottles. Butane canister stoves are a little lighter, but the fuel canister is expensive, heavy, bulky, unreliable, and also purchased only at certain locations.
The ADVENTURE STOVE operates on denatured alcohol and heet. These fuels burn hot and clean and are found at nearly every hardware store, gas station and corner store in the country, talk about convenience. Not only is the ADVENTURE STOVE extremely lightweight, it is very efficient taking mere sips of alcohol making your fuel last seemingly forever. 1 OZ of fuel or less can cook an entire meal. 12 OZ bottles of fuel have been found at stores in the $1 range…that’s ten cents per meal! This stove goes against the misconception that gas burns hotter as its boil times are actually on par with the fastest stoves in the world! It has been carried for years and tested at altitude and in bad weather. It performs every time and that’s why around here it is referred to as “THE STOVE.”
The ADVENTURE STOVE far outperforms other stoves in many aspects. It produces a perfectly tuned bright blue flame that can boil a cup of water in 3 minutes or less. This is about as good as it gets for boil times regarding ultralight backpacking cooking systems. It not only beats gas stoves but it works better than other alcohol stoves as well. Other alcohol stoves do not work in cold weather and many require extra accessories and adapters for winter use. All of this extra hardware adds bulk, weight, cost, setup time and complications to the system. The ADVENTURE STOVE is the smallest, lightest, simplest, most robust and cost-effective burner there is.
The ADVENTURE STOVE is also unlike other alcohol stoves in that it has an adjustable temperature system. Most alcohol burners have one speed, which is GO. This is no good if you wish to simmer meals or cook actual food, as opposed to just boil water. Several years ago a friend said “The stove worked great for boiling water on my river trip but I burnt my chicken because it gets so hot.” The simmer ring was born. The simmer ring is a metal ring that is installed atop the stove over the burner. It chokes off about half of the flame giving you about half as much heat as normal in this “CLOSED” setting. The cookpot lid also aides in temperature control. Heat settings are as follows; LOW: closed flame with lid off, MEDIUM-LOW: closed flame with lid on, MEDIUM-HIGH: open flame with lid off, HIGH: open flame with lid on.
The stove itself is phenomenal, but that wasn’t enough. It was developed into the ideal complete kitchen system that is more functional and durable than nearly anything else out there. The stove nests inside the stainless steel cookpot with everything you need to start cooking right away. The lid locks securely onto the cookpot so nothing can fall out and get lost inside your pack. The leak-proof fuel bottle holds 4+ meals worth of fuel and nests perfectly inside the stove. The kitchen stores the stove, fuel, included stainless steel folding utensil…and there’s still extra space for a lighter and extra fuel or food storage. Since the cookpot is steel you can use it on an open fire. This is a big advantage over aluminum and titanium cookware as the steel will not melt if you run out of or wish to conserve fuel. Don’t try save negligible weight with exotic metals…use durable materials that are survival-ready!
This is just one example of a perfectly developed system. All of our equipment and gear systems function in this way. This is the philosophy that drives us. Functionality, durability and cost-effectiveness blend together to form new products that replace or reinvent the tools of the trade. This is how excellent gear is born. Whether hiking, biking, camping, hunting, fishing or boating, at IDAHO ADVENTURE GEAR we have figured out what works…and also what works even better.
